‘It is was a new step in our way of working. We improvised more frequently and cherished this improvisational character, the unexpected so to speak. Because this experienced team can handle this. And also because the theme demands it. After all, you cannot 'fix' risks, you cannot rehearse intensity. Technically speaking, the bar is quite high, but these children want to be able to do this. Also in terms of interpretation and intention they understand it completely. This is the result of a great familiarity.'
As a maker, he is an all-seeing eye that keeps an overview and takes care of the cast. As a dancer, he is on stage and relates to the others. This double role is sometimes difficult. ‘At a certain point, I have to let go of the role of maker and surrender to Joke's gaze and to the others on stage. To him, this taking care of each other in mutual trust indirectly refers to the title. Because it contains the promise of a more beautiful world where it is easier to live together’.
